Political Science Studies Is The Science Of Governance
Political Science is the study of the political behavior, political systems and politics, in its broader perspectives. However, it has nothing to do with politics in the sense we understand it.
The components of Political Science Studies cater to a wide range of subjects like the political theory, political thought, European Politics, International Relations, Diplomatic Studies, Political Sociology, Political Economy, and British Politics and so on.
Political Science studies also involve the study of inter-power relationship in the world. Most of us are conversant with the much published theories of great powers, super powers and global powers. On the other hand, apart from these political relationship aspects, we also study the classical political philosophy going back to the days of Plato, Aristotle, Machiavelli, and Bodin, coming up to the recent political philosophies of George Bush and Puskin. The idealistic philosophy from Plato to the Das Kapital of Karl Marx, and peaceful non-cooperation of Gandhi, are all parts of Political Studies.
Another aspect of the studies is the different political philosophies pursued by different powers on the world. It is capitalism for United States, communism for Soviet Russia, and democracy for United Kingdom. Similarly, the administrative pattern of different countries is also the subject matter of Political Science Studies. It may be the Parliamentary Democracy in UK and India, the Socialistic Democracy in Russia and China, the Direct Democracy in Switzerland, and the Presidential Democracy in United States. The law governing the relationship between different countries and regulating common global resources like, the high seas, are the subject matter of International Law and International Relations, both of which are parts of the Political Science Studies. The theories of balance of power, cold war, and atomic restraints are all subjects of interest for those who have taken up Political Science studies. Last but not least is the constitution and functioning of public administration authorities and local self government organisations. Political Science Studies give us an overview of all such institutions at various levels not only in the country but also in the world. For example, the United Nations, also considered to be a world Government, the legislature, executive, and judiciary in the country, all fall under the gambit of Political Science Studies. It does not stop here but the sphere extends to the grass root levels in the rural based local self governments, about whom the subject gives a comprehensive picture. One of the most prominent subjects in any university or college course is the Political Science Studies. Though the word science is attached to it, basically it is a subject matter of humanities courses. There are many universities having worldwide reputation, where the department of Political Science is one of the largest. For example, the department of Political Science and International Studies in Birmingham is one of the largest and best departments in U.K. One must not confuse politics with Political Science Studies. Politics is the set of strategies pursued by the politicians to achieve a specific goal in occupying the power and run the Government. Political Science is all about the proposed principles to be followed in Governance of a country or state, the implementing agencies, and their working patterns and relationship among various Governments. Most of the universities have both Masters and Bachelor's degree courses in Political Science Studies, and the honours degrees are conjoint with some other subject. For example, a student can pursue honours degree in Political Science Studies, with a secondary subject like History or Economics. The entire course is a three years course for bachelor's degree and five years course for the Master's.
